The hottest event on the summer social calendar is approaching…

Spring has been and (nearly) gone - in all its bright floral glory - it brought us warmer weather, a seasonal wardrobe change-up, as well as some of the city’s most hotly anticipated events; Ellerslie’s Whips n Spurs and OMF Melbourne Cup Day.

These events seriously added a proverbial spring to the step of the Remix office, but the fun is not over, in fact, the fun has barely just begun. Summer is set to bring another set of seriously hot social occasions.

We love finding new reasons to drink (in moderation) and we already have our eyes firmly set on the next staple on the calendar of Aucklanders who like to party; the Barfoot & Thompson Twilight Summer Night at Ellerslie on Thursday 12 December.

The exhilaration of watching some of the most gorgeous horses and the exceptional fashion are just a few reasons the Christmas racing calendar is such a highlight of the year. And believe us when we say this is an evening of sport, fun, and entertainment to suit all budgets, with tickets starting for as little as $10 for those of you who get in early.

If you totally want to celebrate the evening in #style, the Champagne Lawn is the spot for you. You’ll be treated to a table with your pals, a beautifully prepared BBQ meal designed by award-winning chefs, and a three-hour beverage package (you can also join the partygoers later).

If you want something lush, but more low key, look no further than the Garden Party. The perfect way to get your social life on track, things will kick off with a drink on arrival as well as a free racebook so you can ‘talk track’ and look like you know your ponies from your racehorses.

There are a whole lot of other options too, and you can read all about them here

The Barfoot & Thompson Jockeys’ World Cup that’s happening on the night also adds to the excitement - and breaks down some of the mystery of knowing who to cheer on. Each horse racing on the night is randomly allocated a jockey, and every jockey is representing one of four teams – Northern Mystics Women, New Zealand Breakers International, The Blues Men or the Badmington New Zealand Young Guns, all in breeches (aka jazzy pants) designed by WORLD’s Benny Castles. The teams then gain points depending on race outcomes in a bid to take out the coveted cup & some celebratory Moet Champagne on the podium.

When the sun goes down & the horses have been tucked into bed, the music gets turned up with the social then gathering Ellerslie’s Cuvée bar for the on-site after-party that kicks on into the night with Sweet Mix Kids playing live.

Tickets to the event always sell-out, probably because it’s a bloody good time. So clear your schedule, rally a group of friends, and trot straight to the Auckland Racing Club’s website to secure your tickets!
